The international “Generations and Gender” survey will be conducted in the Republic of Moldova for the first time. This will cover a sample of 10,000 people and will reveal the demographic tendencies and challenges. The results will be used to work out policies and deal with the problems faced in the field.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the National Bureau of Statistics, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute on January 22 signed a memorandum of cooperation in conducting the survey, IPN reports.

“The demographic situation in our country requires immediate action. This survey will help us develop policies and strategies to improve the situation and to correctly address the preoccupations of persons, families and society in general,” said secretary general of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Boris Gîlca.

UNFPA Representative in the Republic of Moldova Rita Columbia said the collection of high-quality data is essential for better understanding the family structure and the couples’ choice in planning and giving birth to the wanted number of children.

The Generations and Gender Survey has so far been conducted in 24 countries and is a global tool for monitoring the demographic changes and responding to aging processes, low fertility, changes in the family structure, intergenerational relationships, and others.
