Plastic artist Glebus Sainciuc died on Tuesday morning, at the age of 93. His daughter-in-law Irina Sainciuc has told Info-Prim Neo that Glebus Sainciuc died in hospital at around 7:45 after a hemorrhage, despite a surgery attempt. Ghenadie Jalba, the president of the Plastic Artists Union, said that Glebus Sainciuc was one of the most important plastic artists in Moldova, alongside Mihai Grecu and Valentina Rusu Ciobanu, Glebus Sainciuc's wife.“This family has always been a strong pillar for the Moldovan arts and culture”. “The heritage that he has left us include remarkable paintings, works of graphic and other arts, and his famous masks”. Ghenadie Jalba says Glebus Sainciuc had always been an active figure in the cultural life of the country and had been a constant supporter of young talents. Glebus Sainciuc was Doctor Honoris Causa of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, a People's Artist, Knight of the Order of the Republic, and Honorary Citizen of Chisinau. He is best known for his vibrant papier-mache masks of famous Moldovan figures, including folk singer Nicolae Sulac, pop singer Anastasia Lazariuc, poets Grigore Vieru and Dumitru Matcovschi, comedian and author Gheorghe Urschi, composer and conductor Gheorghe Mustea and many others.
