The Giurgiulesti Free International Port has plans to double the volume of shipping between the Giurgiulesti and Constanta Sud terminals by the end of 2013. According to a monitoring report by the Ministry of Economy, last year the port worked dynamically, IPN reports.
Besides being a Free Economic Zone, the Giurgiulesti Free International Port is also a logistic center with oil terminal, containers and general goods terminals as well as grain and vegetal oil terminals. The wholesale operations performed through the port in January – December 2012 came to 1.6 billion lei, which is practically the same level as in 2011. At the end of 2012, the resident companies paid taxes of 219.7 million lei, up 31.7% on 2011.
According to the operator, the volume of transit trough the Giurgiulesti Port is expected to increase considerably this year.
The investments made in the Giurgiulesti Free International Port since its foundation totaled US$57.8 million on January 1, 2013.
