The five-year-old girl from Sangerei, who last weekend was taken to the Emergency Children’s Hospital of Bucharest by helicopter after she got poisoned with paracetamol, died at 11am on July 22. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, IPN reports.

To a request made by IPN, the Ministry’s press service said the final diagnosis coincided with the initial diagnosis – acute enteral, occasional, domestic poisoning with acetaminophen, of the third stage, toxicogenic phase, with very grave evolution, with cardiovascular, hepatic, renal failure, toxic encephalopathy of the third level, third-level coma.

In connection with this tragic case, the medical authorities warn the parents not to give medicines to children without a medical prescription and to strictly respect the doses and administration intervals so as to avoid the toxic effects of drugs.

Relatives of the family were quoted by jurnal.md as saying that doctors of the Sangerei District Hospital were to blame for the child’s death. On conditions of anonymity, one of the relatives said the girl didn’t get poisoned with paracetamol at home. The girl was admitted to the district hospital with cold on July 16. Before this, as the girl had high fever, the mother gave her five paracetamol pills. The next day the girl felt better. After perfusions and other procedures, the child went into a coma on July 18 at 4-5am. She was taken by an ambulance from Sangerei to Balti. The parents suspect the doctors in Sangerei administered incorrect treatment to the girl.

From Balti, the girl on July 18 was taken to the Mother and Child Institute of Chisinau. On July 20, she was transferred in a coma to the Grigore Alexandrescu Emergency Children’s Hospital of Bucharest by an air-medical SMURD team of Galati for other treatment methods, including liver transplant, but could not be saved.
