Girl abused by father for 5 years

A girl from the north of the country had been sexually abused by her father for 5 years, and she was only 9 when everything started. The prosecutors that investigated the case said in a press release that the girl's mother had left the country for a job abroad, leaving the girl and her two brothers in their father's care. Starting 2006 the father forced the girl to have sex with him, until she reported it to the police in 2011. The father's violent personality further revealed itself in a February 2011 case when he beat a Chisinau man into unconsciousness and left him lying on the cold ground, after which the victim lost most of his fingers to frostbite. The 37-year-old man was charged with three counts, including rape, medium damage to bodily integrity, and failure to provide assistance to a person in mortal danger, and was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months in prison. He was also ordered to pay 113,000 lei damages to the beating victim. The prosecutors consider the sentence overly mild and intend to appeal it.
