Liberal MP Corina Fusu, in the April 18 sitting of Parliament, announced that lawmakers Ana Gutu, Ion Hadarca, Anatol Arhire, Oleg Bodrug, and Vadim Vacarciuc were excluded from the Liberal faction. She said that the decision was taken in a meeting of the faction on April 17. They also decided to name Valeriu Munteanu as head of the Liberal faction. Ion Hadarca replied that de iure he is the faction’s head and, together with the other MPs who were excluded from the PL earlier, have the majority in the Liberal faction. Thus, a meeting of this faction couldn’t have taken place on April 17. The minority should comply with the law, IPN reports.

Corina Fusu described the position of her former party colleagues as usurpation of power and an unpleasant precedent. She stressed that these MPs’ place is near the Liberal-Democrats because they are closer to the views of this faction. After an exchange of replies, Ion Hadarca said that the Liberal faction is unique and indivisible and is open to other MPs who want to join it.

Last week, seven of the 12 Liberal lawmakers, in concert with other heavyweights of the PL, created the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party, demanding replacing Mihai Ghimpu with Dorin Chirtoaca as party leader. As a result, the PL’s National Council decided to exclude five of the seven MPs from the party. However, the seven lawmakers continue to have a majority in the Liberal faction, even if they were removed from the PL.
