The Moldovan singer Geta Burlacu will open the winter holidays with a new concert to promote her new album “At Earth's Gate.” The CD has 15 folklore songs, unusual in a way for a jazz singer, Info-Prim Neo reports. Geta Burlacu told a news conference Tuesday that switching from jazz to folklore music is an advanced stage in her career. “It's the music of the soul, of love and less for the glass of wine,” the singer said. The official launch of the CD will take place on December 10, at Mihai Eminescu National Theater, as funds will be collected for orphan children from the country. “I open the winter and the Christmas holidays. We are making a nice charity for the children who need soul warmth. It will not be just a concert of folklore music. It will be a music show,” Geta Burlacu said. “Geta will be mascot of the this year's winter holidays. We chose the Geta Burlacu's project because we like her courage to play so serious a type of music as the folklore music is,” said Lucia Culev, the head of the Chisinau culture direction. Christmas concerts will take place on a daily basis, the municipal official said. “Every orphan child will receive presents from artists and City Hall servants willing to make every child smile,” Lucia Culev said. The fund-raising drive will last till December 25. The money will be collected at concerts, or made from selling tickets to those. The culture directions also accepts donations.
