Germany is an important, sincere and trustworthy partner of Moldova, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel stated in a news conference on Tuesday. The German official is in Moldova on a visit on the occasion of the celebration of 20 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat said the results achieved during these 20 years show that the Moldovan-German dialogue developed dynamically and consistently and that the relations between the two states are durable and constructive. He stressed that Germany showed openness and offered constant support during the period of reformation of Moldova’s society and economy and in the European integration process.
“We would like Germany to continue taking part in the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine. We highly appreciate the assistance provided by the Federal Criminal Police Office to Moldova and hope that we will be assisted in opening a consultancy center for the judiciary police in Chisinau,” said
Vlad Filat.
Dirk Niebel stressed that Moldova is an important partner for the Federal Government. The German authorities welcome and support the efforts made by Moldova on the path to European integration. “We firmly support the Government of Moldova in the implementation of reforms as this means creation of conditions for attracting investments, modernizing agriculture, promoting the state of law and civil society and combating corruption,” he said.
Dirk Niebel also said he is glad that the businesspeople want to invest in Moldova and contribute to important economic growth and poverty reduction. “The German investors do not hurry to come to a country, but when they come they remain for long. We have German residents here. If conditions are created, more will come and we will thus contribute to making progress in the European integration process,” he stated.
Trade between Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany last year was US$507.4 million, Germany being the fifth largest trade partner of Moldova. In Moldova there are about 381 companies with German capital. The German investments totaled €66 million, which is 7.3% of the foreign investments in Moldova.
