The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Moldova Ulrike Knotz said he will make effort for the relations between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural sectors to be extended and intensified. He made such a statement in an interview for Radio Moldova in connection with the National Holiday of the Federal Republic of Germany, IPN reports.

The diplomat said that as a result of the visit made by the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation of Germany to Moldova, there were agreed the key economic areas for cooperation. “These areas are: energy, drinking water supply and sustainable economic development. What I want is for more investments to be made in this country. Only this way can a prosperous private economic sector be developed. This is important for the economic, social and political spheres,” stated Ulrike Knotz.

The ambassador reiterated the importance of the German investments. “The investments from Germany are very important because they bring with them a transfer of technology, a possibility of entering new markets,” he said.

Ulrike Knotz considers the accomplishments in the European integration process are very good and are in the interests of the Moldovan people. “The EU and Germany offer support to Moldova on the path of European integration, but this path is not short and is not simple. At this moment, it is too early to discuss Moldova’s membership in the EU,” he stated.

The ambassador said that Germany will continue to make effort to contribute to settling the Transnistrian conflict. “Germany every year invites the sides involved in the conflict to high-level conferences, but the negotiation process does not depend on Germany. The political will plays an important role here. Regretfully, I don’t see much political will in this regard. It seems that everyone feels fine in this status quo, but this is to the people’s detriment,” he said.

Ulrike Knotz called on the decision makers to be actively and pragmatically contribute to the identification of solutions for ameliorating the Transnistrian conflict.
