Financial education is promoted among young people in Moldova through an entrepreneurial game for farmers staged at the Chisinau Center of Excellence in Transport. The business game forms part of a project implemented under the 30-year-long development cooperation between Moldova and Germany, IPN reports.

Aurelia Nacu, training expert at German Sparkassenstiftung Moldova, said that both the business game Agribusiness and the Savings game were implemented within the framework of the project “Access to Finance for Sustainable and Climate Adaptive Development of Rural Areas in Moldova”. “The business games are an innovative method that was worked out by German Sparkassenstiftung with the assistance of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. Starting with August 2022 until this May, 40 such games, both Savings and Agribusiness, were implemented all over the country and involved a total of about 1,000 participants,” stated the organization’s representative.

Boris Rusu, director of the Center of Excellence in Transport, said that together with the implementation of the games in educational institutions last year, the cooperation between the German Embassy and the Center of Excellence in Transport became more durable. “At the beginning, we didn’t really realize the connection between road transport and agriculture, but we later understood that road transport is present in any sector of the national economy. And we then accepted the project and found teachers who launched these games that were welcomed. The students showed increased interest in this project,” said the public institution’s director.

Aliona Moroi, economic education teacher of the Center of Excellence in Transport, explained that promoting financial education among young people by interactive methods is the major goal of this activity. ‘The Agribusiness game is based on three rounds and three know-how sessions (where a topic is discussed through interactive methods) in which the young people learn how to correctly invest in agriculture,” stated Aliona Moroi, noting that the game takes place on Saturday and Sunday, between 9am and 4pm, as namely on these days the students from other educational institutions of Moldova can be involved.

Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Margret Uebber said that Germany, through the agency of the Embassy, has implemented already 15 projects to increase the economic possibilities of young people in Moldova. “Over 12,000 students have benefited from this program – they either completed it or still benefit from it. We work with 44 educational institutions and cooperate with 280 companies as this is a dual education model that implies theory and also practice at companies. We gained very good experience as part of these projects. 71% of those who are involved in these projects find a job later,” stated the diplomat.

In April, there was launched an electronic map that focuses on the official bilateral development cooperation between Moldova and Germany and on “micro-projects” of the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau. The map provides an overview of the official bilateral development cooperation and technical details about each project.
