Germany provided a generator and medical equipment to a health center situated in Ştefan Vodă district, close to the border. Both Moldovans and Ukrainian refugees will benefit from this equipment. The batch was handed over by German Development Minister Svenja Schulze, who came to Moldova to assure the country of Germany’s solidarity in the management of the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, IPN reports.

“The Moldovans show amazing willingness to help the people from Ukraine. No other country received more refugees proportionally to the population. At the same time, they powerfully feel the effects of the Russian aggression. Russia tries to also destabilize this former Soviet republic and to stop the course of the pro-European reforms. But Moldova is not alone. I’m here today to assure Moldova of the continuation of Germany’s support. Both refugees and the country’s inhabitants will benefit from our support,” said Svenja Schulze, being quoted in a press release of the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau.

In reaction to the refugee crisis and the energy crisis, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development launched a support package for Moldova. This totals €149 million, €7 million of which was pledged during the visit. The package includes immediate response measures to deal with the crisis and to stabilize and develop the country in the medium term.

Last year, over 40 educational institutions, hospitals and refugee centers in Moldova were renovated or outfitted with new equipment with Germany’s support. There were created support offers for refugees and other groups that need protection and supported the refugees’ employment. Additional funds will be provided for continuing the activities this year.
