Germany is offering another 45 million euros in support to Moldova for this year and next year. This was announced during Moldovan-German government negotiations on cooperation for development held on July 3 in Chisinau.

The German Embassy to Moldova said in a press release that the key areas of additional support focus on the implementation of public administration reforms and public finance management, which are important priorities for Moldova in initiating EU accession negotiations.

Focus will be on improving access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the professional inclusion capacity of young people, especially women. Also, the governments of the two countries have committed to undertake joint efforts to boost Moldova’s energy security, with a higher share of renewable energy.

The German officials assured the Moldovan authorities of their support in improving the economic prospects for Moldovans and in implementing reforms for the country’s accession to the EU. The parties also agreed on cooperation priorities that include investment promotion, energy, local development and good governance.

The head of the German delegation, the parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Niels Annen, noted that Moldova is still experiencing the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. However, the people and the Government of the Republic of Moldova have demonstrated that they can integrate refugees and overcome the energy crisis. It is now important to implement the reforms that are the conditions for the start of EU accession negotiations, especially in the field of public administration and the fight against corruption. In addition, businesses need reliable investment conditions and young people need livelihoods to build their future at home. In these efforts, the Republic of Moldova can count on Germany’s support, stated Niels Annen.

For his part, the head of the Moldovan delegation, state secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Ion Gumene, declared that Germany is among the main partners and a reliable supporter of the Republic of Moldova. Active cooperation based on respect, support and communication will bring bilateral relations to a high level and generate effective results for both parties.

In 2023, Moldovan-German cooperation turns 30 years old. The value of the assistance allocated by Germany to the Republic of Moldova in the period 1993-2022 reaches 281.9 million euros.
