The Federal Republic of Germany is a privileged political and economic partner of the Republic of Moldova among the Western European states, Moldova’s Ambassador in Berlin Oleg Serebrian stated in an interview for Radio Moldova, which was broadcast in the program “Objective to Europa”, IPN reports.
The interview was given in connection with the celebration of 25 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Germany on April 30.
According to Oleg Serebrian, the high number of agreements of cooperation existing between Moldova and Germany shows that the two states are very close and have well-shaped diplomatic relations. During the last few years, the dialogue between Chisinau and Berlin has been very intense.
For the Republic of Moldova, the German economic potential is of big importance. In 2017, Germany will make important investments in the Orhei subzone of the Balti Free Economic Zone. The ambassador said the industrial sector is a privileged one for German investments in Moldova. Rural development and agro-industry are also priority sectors.
“The relations between out states developed slowly, but solidly during 25 years and I think they are mutually advantageous. We can say that it is a successful relationship, not only an important one for us. In the recent past, Germany has expressed interest in less economic sectors, such as civil society and education, where investments are needed, especially in research related to production. The Republic of Moldova has capacities not only in informatics, but also in plant genetics, medicines, pharmacology, etc.” said Oleg Serebrian.
The diplomat also said that Germany supports Moldova’s national security and its rapprochement with Europe. “In the dialogue with Europe, Germany is undoubtedly a privileged partner that the Republic of Moldova should have,” he stated.
By the number of foreign capital enterprises working in Chisinau, Germany ranks sixth, while by investments in the share capital fifth among Moldova’s partners.
