The border guards of the Republic of Moldova received vehicles and motorboats worth a total of about €1 million within a Moldovan-German partnership. Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros said that these new resources will significantly increase the mobility of border guards, facilitating the activities of maintaining borders safe. “The means of transport will be used to patrol and strengthen border security, ensuring that we are always ready to respond effectively to any challenge,” the minister said at the donation ceremony, IPN reports.

The minister noted that starting with 2022, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through its embassy in the Republic of Moldova, has provided valuable assistance, modern equipment and technology. The batch donated today is part of this unconditional support that is essential for the Republic of Moldova.

Germany’s Ambassador to Moldova Margret Maria Uebber said that the 38 special vehicles and five boats are part of a series of measures through which Germany has assisted the Moldovan partners in improving border control and will continue to support them within possibilities. “We will also continue to support the Border Police through seminars and training courses for police officers and will provide more equipment in addition to the already offered one for the examination and analysis of identity documents,” stated the diplomat.

Margret Maria Uebber also said that the German and Moldovan border police have had close and reliable cooperation relations for many years and effective border protection is a priority of the German support for the Republic of Moldova.

General Border Police Inspectorate chief Ruslan Galușca said the equipment contributes to improving the efficiency of patrolling, state border control and the capacity for rapid intervention at the border. The means of transport also support the development of the concept of autonomy of the patrol in state border surveillance.
