The Moldovan police will receive from their German colleagues 20 smart cars capable of detecting and recording traffic violations.

“It’s a procedure carried out by our German colleagues, so it’s them who are making the purchase for us. Twenty such cars will be coming to Moldova. Ten will be with coloristic technology, and ten others will be civilian cars”, said General Police Inspectorate head Viorel Cernăuțeanu.

Cernăuțeanu said he will request that no fines be imposed for at least a week or two after the smart cars are put into commission, with offending drivers to get only warnings. The initial goal will be to get a complex picture of behaviors and patterns of driver violations.

“I would like these cars to just patrol around, without fining anyone. It is important for people to be informed about these cars that have remarkable technical capacities for detecting violations”, Viorel Cernăuțeanu added.
