German managers propose reforming Moldovan hospital system

A team of manager from Germany propose to reform the hospital system in Moldova. One of them, Andreas Mezey, told a conference on this subject on Thursday the reform would improve the medical services provided and will better the management system so as to counter corruption in healthcare, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan authorities are proposed to from four hospital models: excellence centers (joining many hospitals under single management), specialized hospitals, local hospitals and portal hospitals like the family doctor centers. Regardless of the model to be chosen, the hospitals are said to have to cooperate amongst them. The managers suggest to create 9 health areas for this purpose. “The patient won't have the impression that better services will be provided to him if he goes to hospitals in Chisinau, as high-performance technologies and professional doctors will work in those areas,” Mezey said. According to him, the reform may last from 15 to 20 years, as the first five years are to be dedicated to develop the legal frame. The German managers did not assess the cost of the project. The Moldovan hospital managers are inclined to opt for the model of specialized hospitals. “Those hospitals should have 5 specialties: internal diseases, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, infectious diseases and pediatrics,” manager Grigorie Chetrari from Balti said. The idea to reform the hospital system came after specialists from Moldova and Germany studied the district hospitals from the country.
