German Government to offer Moldova €34.5 million in 2021-2022

The German Government undertook to provide the Moldovan Government with a total new amount of €34.5 million within the period 2021-2022. This comprises €23.0 million for Financial Cooperation projects and €11.5 million for Technical Cooperation projects. Negotiations on the development cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany were held virtually in Chisinau, Berlin and Bonn on November 25, 2021, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Embassy of Germany notes that the future cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany will focus on two major areas: “Training and sustainable growth for decent jobs” including technical, vocational education and training as well as private and financial sector development and “Responsibility for our planet – climate and energy” including urban and municipal development.

The German cooperation will focus on the improvement of public services for the population such as water supply and waste water management. Moreover, by promoting local enterprises and attracting of new investors, more well-paid jobs and economic opportunities are to be created.

Germany will also remain engaged in the area of good governance to support important reform processes and the fight against corruption through the provision of policy expertise. In addition to this cooperation, the German Government has already provided support to the amount of more than €17 million to the Republic of Moldova in order to overcome the pandemic crisis.

The German side underlined that it will continue to assist the Republic of Moldova in the framework of bilateral development cooperation. “Our overall aim remains to improve the socio-economic conditions and thus the lives of the people in the Republic of Moldova,” says the document.

In the discussion, both delegations emphasized the importance of joint European values as a basis for their successful bilateral cooperation. The Moldovan side stressed that the implementation of the Association Agreement, as well as the DCFTA are at the core of the Government’s program.

Over the last 28 years, the Moldovan-German development cooperation has contributed successfully to improving the life of the Moldovan people. Since 1993, the total volume of the bilateral Technical and Financial Cooperation provided directly by the German Government to the Republic of Moldova amounts to €154.7 million.
