“We are here to support Moldova’s freedom and Ukraine’s freedom,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at the Moldova Partnership Platform held in Chisinau. The official reiterated Germany’s commitment to provide support to the Republic of Moldova in its European path, IPN reports.
The Republic of Moldova did not give up. On the contrary, it became an EU candidate country. The country’s citizens have shown that they are very strong and the Republic of Moldova has shown that it is a strong country in the face of the crisis. “We all know what Russia’s war, fake news, lies, etc. mean. This fake news affects democracy, obviously. We should not forget that when there is serious interference in democracy, there are significant consequences, especially if we are talking about the interference of illegal money. Russia provided more than $50,000 for influencing, if not destroying elections by buying votes,” stated Annalena Baerbock.
The German official noted that it is necessary to maintain the efforts made so far. “First of all, we must continue to develop this Platform for Moldova. We reduced the number of working groups and decided to focus our efforts on those sectors that are most important: energy efficiency, the fight against corruption, and economic development,” said he German foreign minister.
Annalena Baerbock reaffirmed Germany’s support for the Republic of Moldova. “The past has shown us that we cannot afford to have gray areas in Europe. That is why we train Moldovan civil servants to know the European law. We have representatives in Chisinau, Balti, Bender to support the institutions to cope with the negative consequences of climate change that we are unfortunately still seeing now,” said the German official.
The fifth Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform brought together at the Palace of the Republic in Chisinau over 65 delegations of partner countries and international organizations.
