Prime Minister Iurie Leanca was met with military honors at the Federal Chancellery of Germany, where he had a meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel. After the meeting, the two officials made statement for the media. Angela Merkel said she is impressed by the things done in Moldova and by the country’s optimism about the coming closer to the European Union and the building of a democratic state, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Angela Merkel welcomed the ratification of the Association Agreement by Moldova’s Parliament, saying that its provisions should be applied mainly to the legal system so that the people are confident that justice will be done to them.

For his part, Iurie Leanca said that Germany played a crucial role in realizing the potential of the Eastern Partnership, while the fact that such countries as Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia recently signed Association Agreement with the EU is an indisputable merit of the partners from Berlin.

The Premier assured that the Government will continue to modernize Moldova by accelerating reforms. “We will have to make serious changes. We will focus on the intensification of the fight against corruption, the justice sector reform and the improvement of the living conditions by attracting foreign investment and creating jobs. I’m glad that we enjoy the German Chancellor’s support. The Association Agreement will help us because it is the most ambitious modernization plan ever adopted by Moldova,” stated Iurie Leanca, adding that Moldova will follow the European path with determination.
