The Embassy of Germany in Chisinau invites Moldovans to apply for an International Parliamentary Scholarship to spend five months in Berlin. The German Bundestag offers young people the opportunity to get to know the German parliamentary system and political decision-making processes during a 15-week work placement with a Member of the Bundestag, IPN reports.

“The International Parliamentary Scholarship gives well qualified young people with a strong interest in politics the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Germany’s system of parliamentary government. When the program is completed, these people return home with the wish to actively and responsibly take part in building a democratic future for their country,” chief of the Bundestag’s Logistics Section Randolph Kruger said in a meeting with young people.

The contest is open to graduates of any faculty with a university degree who know well the German language, are citizens of Moldova, have knowledge of the German political system, society and history and are aged under 30 when the placement is finished.

The scholarship of €500 a month includes free accommodation and covering of the insurance and travel expenses. “From our practice, we know that many scholars return to their country and become involved in the political life. This scholarship offers the young people many chances to assert oneself. During the internship, they are all the time near a Member of the Bundestag. They stay in his office, answer the phone and mail, go to meetings with voters together with the politician and take part in the events organized by this. The goal is to enable the young people to see how decisions are taken in the Bundestag,” stated Randolph Kruger.

The German Bundestag collaborates with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin to run its International Parliamentary Scholarships scheme from March 1, 2016 until July 21. The scholarship-winners are chosen by the German Bundestag’s independent selection panel.
