The young people of Moldova are invited to apply to the 2017 International Parliamentary Scholarship program of the German Bundestag. The scholarship enables university graduates to gain first-hand experience of Germany’s system of parliamentary government and political decision-making processes. The applicants must show high qualification and interest in the political life, IPN reports.

Deputy Head of the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau Thomas Weithoner told a news conference that the program lasts from March 1 until July 31, 2017. When the program is completed, the scholars must return to the country to actively and responsibly take part in the configuration of a democratic future for their country.

The scheme involves 15-week work placements with a Member of the German Bundestag. “The scholars can accompany the German MP to events and meetings within the parliamentary group or commissions. They help the MP to compile welcoming speeches, discourses and to answer phone calls from people,” stated Thomas Weithoner.

The contest is open to graduates of any faculty with a university degree, who know well the German language, are citizens of Moldova, have knowledge of the German political system, society and history and are younger than 30 at the start of the scholarship.

Ana Severin, one of the beneficiaries of the project, said the scholarship offers the young people many advantages. “During five months, I carried out research on different subjects. I took part in drafting press releases, worked on the website and participated in all the events in which the MP was involved,” she stated.

The scholarship of €500 a month includes free accommodation, insurance and travel expenses. If the participants have own lodging, these will be offered €300 a month for the related costs. The travel expenses to and from Berlin will also be covered. The scholars will be chosen by an independent selection panel of the German Bundestag.

Applications in electronic format can be submitted by June 30, 2016 to the email address info@chisinau.diplo.de.
