The Bundestag of Germany adopted a resolution in support of Moldova’s European prospect, IPN reports, quoting the Parliament’s press service.
The resolution says that Moldova took important steps towards building a democratic state, ensuring the observance of human rights and pluralism of opinions, reforming the legal system and in fighting corruption, which must be continued.
The Bundestag also expressed its support for the implementation of the Association Agreement and called on the Federal Government of Germany to support and deepen the political association and economic integration of Moldova into the EU.
While on a working visit to Berlin on July 3-4, Head of Parliament Igor Corman thanked the German lawmakers for this important gesture of support and asked for the Bundestag ’s assistance in ratifying the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union as a matter of urgency. “Germany is an important partner of our country. In this period we need the foreign partners’ support more than ever. We would like the EU member states to ratify the accord at an accelerated pace,” he stated.
While in Germania, Igor Corman had meetings with representatives of the largest parliamentary groups that formed the ruling coalition, respectively Vice President of the Bundestag Ulla Schmidt, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Günther Krichbaum, Deputy Chairman of the Social Democratic Party’s faction Bärbel Kofler, member of the Social Democratic Party’s faction Harald Berwanger, MP Manfred Grund, who is the Chairman of the German-Moldovan Forum, and others.
The discussions centered on the internal situation in Moldova and the developments in the region.
The German MPs said the Bundestag will ratify the accord in autumn and assured that they will make effort for the given subject to be included in the legislature’s agenda immediately after the return from vacation.
In Berlin, the Parliamentary Speaker took part in a public debate entitled “Prospects for the Republic of Moldova”, organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. Igor Corman spoke about the country’s latest accomplishments in the relations with the EU and the ratification of the Association Agreement as well as about the utilization of the EU’s assistance for modernizing Moldova.
