German beer served in Chisinau's central plaza

German beer and bratwursts will be served at the German stand in the European Village on Europe Days in Chisinau's National Assembly Square as visitors will be able to listen to famous German tunes played by the Moldovan ensemble Concertino live on stage. Carsten Wilms, German Embassy's Deputy Head of Mission, has told Info-Prim Neo that today in Chisinau, and a week later in Comrat, the mission will offer quick-start German language classes, will distribute information material on Germany and Europe, and will create many opportunities to meet and discuss with Embassy officials. Germany also takes part in the European Film Festival (May 14-18) with the intriguing semi-documentary “Nothing is better than nothing at all”. “I am happy to say that the German investor Südzucker that has been active in Moldova for many years is the general sponsor of this year’s Europe Day”, said the official. The official noted that the celebration of Europe Days is an opportunity to remember that Germany was in the 1950s one of the founding members of the European Union. “Today most Germans take the benefits of European integration for granted: free traveling over borders, Europe wide possibilities for the business and investment sector, common European standards and values everywhere in the EU. On the other hand, the general public still harbors many prejudices about the EU and the so called 'Brussels bureaucracy'. Therefore it is important to objectively inform how the EU works and what concrete benefits the EU brings to citizens”, he stated. Carsten Wilms has remarked that if you compare the Moldova today with the Moldova some years ago, much has been done. “I remain an optimist. If former parts of the Soviet Union like the Baltic countries or former socialist countries like Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary or Croatia can fulfill the high standards of the EU, why should Moldova not be able to?” “The member countries of the EU are very diverse and will always be. (...) What we all share are the same European values: an open society, tolerance towards minorities, a transparent democracy, rule of law and fair opportunities for everybody. I am convinced that this is also Moldova’s future”, stated the German Embassy's Deputy Head of Mission. Europe Days in Moldova are celebrated this year in Chisinau and Comrat during May 12-19. The events are organized by the EU Delegation to Moldova and sponsored by Sudzucker, Orange, Agroindbank Moldova and Flor Art.
