The current government of Moldova may be removed after the legislative elections of this November because there is too much criticism leveled at the power in society, German Ambassador in Chisinau Matthias Meyer said in the program “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.
“We would regret it if the current government, which is a pro-European one, fell. That’s why we urge them to be more attentive to the wishes and problems of the people and to more insistently promote the reforms, especially in the legal system,” stated Matthias Meyer.
The diplomat said the sentencing of a judge to seven years in jail for a bribe of €200 seems exaggerated to him. “The authorities must fight corruption, but not convince us that they fight it. In fact, we will be convinced of this when we see the conviction of high-ranking officials,” he stated.
Matthias Meyer also warned the administration that security comes from inside and that they must bear in mind that a number of ethnic minorities live on Moldova’s territory, which should be harmoniously integrated into a unitary state so as to avoid possible acts of separatism or destabilization.
The diplomat denied the fact that the European Union hastens the integration of Moldova owing to the fact that Ukraine earlier refused to sign the association and free trade agreements. “We only want the citizens of this country to follow a correct path, which is the path to European integration,” said Matthias Meyer.
