“Georgia was, is, and will be a friend and important partner for Moldova on its Euro-integration path”, stated Constitutional Court (CC) chair Alexandru Tanase during a press briefing held at Batumi alongside his Georgian counterpart George Papuashvili. The two officials’ statements were made in the context of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of Moldova and Georgia, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting a communiqué from the CC.
The agreement promotes experience exchange between the authorities of constitutional jurisdiction, in the field of ensuring the constitutionality of Laws and other normative acts.
The Memorandum stipulates the organization of bilateral meetings between the representatives of constitutional courts, with the goal of approaching current constitutional jurisdiction problems of common interest. Additionally, the two courts will exchange rulings, decisions, orders adopted, as well as other juridical, scientific and expertise material.
“The signing of this Memorandum is a very important event for the two countries’ constitutional courts, since we aim at walking alongside on the path of modernizing the two states’ constitutional justice, developing the role of constitutional jurisdiction authorities towards affirming the supremacy of the Constitution, respecting human fundamental rights and freedoms, ensuring the equilibrium among state powers”, stated George Papuashvili, head of the Georgian Constitutional Court.
In turn, head of the Moldovan Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase emphasized that the two institutions’ cooperation is very good. “The visit to the Georgian Constitutional Court has a goal much deeper than the signing of a cooperation Memorandum. We have a great many things in common. This Memorandum is an additional element for us to get closer, and for giving a certain durability to the partnership that we established. Georgia was, is and will be an important friend and partner for Moldova on its Euro-integration path”, stated Alexandru Tanase.
