The leader of the unionist platform “Actiunea 2012”, Romanian citizen George Simion, who was declared undesirable in Moldova for a five-year period, says he is ready to seek justice at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The activist stated that the first court rejected his request to lift the ban and he appealed to the Appeals Court, but the examination of the case is delayed. The Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) provided unconvincing evidence in the trial by which the young man tries to regain the right to enter Moldova.

Within a news conference at IPN, George Siomion said through Skype that the SIS presented a number of pictures of him attending peaceful demonstrations promoting the Union, videos of him appearing on TV, fragments from a social networking site where he appears with a loudspeaker, coordinating demonstrations. This evidence, which he published on a social networking site, is not conclusive because those actions do not pose a threat and are not banned by law.

“I lost confidence in the Moldovan justice. I think only two factors can do justice to me – the ECHR, to which I will file a complaint when I take all the required steps in Moldova, and the people’s pressure. I’m confident that the people in Moldova will make common cause with me,” stated George Simion.

Vlad Biletski, the representative of the National Unity Bloc, said the images presented by the SIS are not proofs showing that George Simion committed offenses as hundreds of people took part in those events. The SIS invoked the fact that George Simion’s activity is political in character and, being a member of another state, he cannot perform such activities. However, the activist forms part of no movement or political party.

A member of the Bloc Claudia Iovita said that a large-scale demonstration to seek Union with Romania and to support George Simion will be held in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on July 5, starting at 2pm. “After the Great National Assembly of 2pm, during a week we will go on a march, called the March of Stephan the Great, up to the Prut, where a flower bridge will be staged on July 11. Afterward, together with our mates from Romania, we will go to Bucharest,” she stated.

In another development, Constantin Codreanu made a public call to all the political forces and civil society to support the members of the unionist bloc who undertake to draft the Lustration Law. The lustration refers to the methods used by the post-totalitarian regimes to exclude persons who cooperated with the Communist regime, especially former informers of the secret Communist police.

In the middle of May, George Simion was declared undesirable in Moldova for a five-year period and was expelled from the country.
