George Bush has invited the Russian Federation to collaborate in anti-missile shield projects. “Putin must understand that an anti-missile defense system is directed in particular against certain regimes in the Middle East, which some day might hold us all as their hostages”, stated Bush at a joint press conference with Romanian President Traian Basescu in Neptun on Wednesday, April 2. The American President named terrorism, cyber-attacks and trafficking in weapons, human beings and illegal drugs as being the main threats of the 21st century. “It is not NATO that poses threats to Russia”, stated Bush. “When I meet Putin, I’ll tell him the Cold War is over”, the American president added. Traian Basescu also stressed the importance of overcoming the Cold War approach. “Missile attacks coming from countries that don’t play by the rules can some day evenly affect Russia, America, or Ukraine”, said the Romanian president. Referring to the Black Sea zone, the two heads of state highlighted the need to create conditions for it to become a safe region. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive in Bucharest on Thursday morning to take part in the NATO-Russia Council’s meeting. Later this week Putin will meet Bush at his residence in Sochi.
