The restoration of the communication platforms for the Transnistrian conflict settlement in the 1+1 and 5+2 formats and of the communication of the sector working groups represent top priorities for Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration George Balan. In a meeting with the press, staged by “Promo-LEX” Association, he said that he will soon meet with the chief negotiator of Tiraspol Vitaly Ignatenko in Chisinau, IPN reports.

George Balan said representatives of the mediators and observers to the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 3+2 format will come to Moldova at the start of April. These will issue officially an invitation to Tiraspol and Chisinau to hold negotiations in the 5+2 format, which have been stagnant since 2014. In June, a confidence building conference will take place, organized by the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office, which is held by Germany. As to a possible meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and the Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk, George Balan noted that such a meeting was not scheduled and he has the freedom to negotiate in the name of the Government.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration noted that the constitutional authorities will continue to defend the rights of the Transnistrians. He considers the Transnistrian region should be given a special legal status and any discussions on the federalization of the Republic of Moldova are impossible.

In the discussions with the journalists, “Promo-LEX” executive director Ion Manole asked that the authorities should take more measures to defend the human rights in Transnistria. He proposed creating special placement centers for internally displaced people, more exactly for those who had to find refuge on the right bank of the Nistru River and who remain without support, shelter and earnings.

Ion Manole noted that there is practically no civil society in the Transnistrian region, while the existing one cannot help the people. At the same time, the region’s administration banned the members of “Promo-LEX” from entering the territory that is not controlled by the constitutional authorities and civil society from the right bank of the Nistru can no longer monitor the situation in the region.
