Three permanent members of the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) will be elected in the extraordinary General Assembly of Judges on November 22. Seven candidates are competing for the three vacancies. Another three members were elected on October 18, IPN reports.
The CSM has 12 members – 6 are elected by the General Assembly of Judges, three are ex officio members (the minister of justice, the prosecutor general and the president of the Supreme Court of Justice) and three are named by Parliament. The composition of the CSM is renewed as the terms of the members elected in 2009 expired.
According to the information published on the official website of the CSM, the candidates for the post of permanent member of the Supreme Council of Magistrates on the behalf of judges are: Nichifor Corochi, Grigore Siscanu, Gheorghe Balan, Viorica Puica, Victor Micu, Vladimir Brasoveanu, and Maria Ghervas.
The draft agenda of the assembly also includes the election of one substitute member of the CSM from among the judges of the Supreme Court Justice and of one substitute member from among the judges of the Courts of Appeals. Judge Ion Druta is the candidate for the post of substitute member on behalf of the Supreme Court Justice, while the candidates on behalf of the Courts of Appeals are Dina Rotarciuc, Domnica Manole, Vera Toma, Aurelia Parpalac, Anatolie Minciuna, Ion Muruianu, Nina Cernat, and Sergiu Furdui.
Judges Dumitru Visternicean, Tatiana Raducanu and Anatolie Turcan were elected as members of the Supreme Council of Magistrates on October 18.
The extraordinary General Assembly of Judges will take place at the Celebrations House, starting at 10am.
