The General Assembly of Judges will take place on March 1, 2024. The date was set by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) on Friday, IPN reports.

The General Assembly of Judges was last convened on April 28. Four members of the Superior Council of Magistracy were elected then, namely Vasile Șchiopu, Ioana Chironeț, Sergiu Caraman, and Maria Frunze. All four are judges of ordinary courts.

Four judges of ordinary courts, one judge of the appeals court and one judge of the Supreme Court of Justice are selected to serve on the SCM from among judges. So far, only the four judges who represent ordinary courts and also substitute member Livia Mitrofan of the Centru Court of Chisinau have been elected.

So, the General Assembly of Judges on March 1 is to elect two more SCM members from the other two levels – the Appeals Court and the Supreme Court of Justice. Together with the election of the SCM member on behalf of the Appeals Court, the term in office of Nina Cernat will end.
