Children and the administration of the Social Rehabilitation Center “Gavroche House” marked 10 years of activity of the institution. Director Nina Dodon said that over 200 children benefited from the center’s services in the period. Half of them were reintegrated into the biological families. Nina Dodon has told IPN that the main goal of the center is to make sure that all the children have a family.
On the day of the anniversary, the children enjoyed candies and surprises. They were presented a concert that was also attended by over 30 children who were placed with families during the 10 years.
According to Nina Dodon, the greatest wish of every child, regardless of age, is to have a mother and a father nearby. Ten years ago, there were fewer applications for adoption compared with the last four years. The last accomplishment of the center is its contribution to the adoption of three brothers by a family living in a suburban settlement of Chisinau.
There are now 18 children at “Gavroche House”, 12 of whom can be adopted. “We are waiting for people to come and become the parents of these children,” stated Nina Dodon.
Head of the Municipal Children’s Rights Protection Division Svetlana Chifa said such a center in Chisinau municipality was needed as there were many abandoned children begging on the street.
“During these ten years, we managed to offer a shelter and warmth to many children. We have provided services of a high quality and reached the heart of every children placed with families,” she stated.
In the municipality of Chisinau there are 15 temporary placement centers for children in difficulty. Five of them are financed with money from the state budget, while the others by NGOs. “Gavroche House” is intended for children aged between 4 and 17.
