Exactly two months since the last price increase for fuel, on Monday, September 18, the gasoline and diesel fuel became cheaper by respectively MDL 0.30 and MDL 0.10 per liter. The director executive of the “Importcompetrol” Petrol Importers’ Union, Vladimir Ghitu, stated for Info-Prim Neo that the gas stations from Moldova have set new prices as of Monday. A liter of A 95 gasoline is now MDL 12.50, a liter of A98 gasoline costs MDL 12.90, and a liter of diesel fuel – MDL 10.60. Vladimir Ghitu commented that the prices decreased due to the smaller prices on the international arena, and in refineries from Romania, Belarus, Russia, the main sources of imported fuel. According to Ghitu, the prices diminished due to the additional petrol resources of China and the stable situation in conflict areas. These factors together with reserve petrol bought at old prices determined the decrease of 30 bani per liter of gasoline and 10 bani per liter of diesel fuel. „If the prices at refineries will keep diminishing, fuel may also become even cheaper”, Vladimir Ghitu stated. The cited source evaluated as irrational the fuel price diminishing in this period of the year, as usually the fuel cost have an increasing character. The petroleum prices decreased on the international market last week with an average of USD 2.5 or 3.7%. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) evaluates that until the end of this year the petroleum prices will decrease by approximately 200 thousand barrels per day, and will be 28.9 million barrels per day. OPEC also predicted that by 2007 the petrol demand will drop by 800 thousand barrels per day compared to 2006, and will be 28.1 million barrels per day.
