The woman from Crihana Veche village of Cahul district in whose house a gas cylinder exploded on January 9 said the blast occurred when the master who came to help her with the frozen water branch pipe tried to warm up his gas cylinder in the kitchen.

Contacted by IPN, the 81-year-old woman said the man came with his own gas cylinder as her house is connected to the centralized gas supply system. “I asked him to unfreeze the hydrophore as I disconnected the water supply given the cold weather. His cylinder was frozen and he came in to warm it up in the kitchen and this exploded. Two doors, three windows and a wall were destroyed. It looks as if it was a natural disaster,” she related.

The woman was unhurt, while the man suffered second-degree burns on his face and hands and is now in the Septic Surgery Ward of the Cahul District Hospital.

Firefighters warn against keeping gas cylinders in closed areas and against leaving the valve open so as to avoid leakages.
