SA Moldovagaz in January will purchase natural gas from the Russian gas company Gazprom at the price of US$1,230 per 1,000 m³. The announcement was made by the president of the Administration Board of SA Moldovagaz Vadim Ceban, IPN reports.
Vadim Ceban said that in accordance with the price calculation formula, the final value will be determined after January 10. The whole amount of gas bought from the Russian supplier will be delivered to Tiraspoltransgaz in the Transnistrian region, including for producing electrical energy for the right side of the Nistru.
Political pundit Dionis Cenușă said that while the price of gas in Europe declined under €1,000 per 1,000 m³, Moldova pays US$1,230 per 1,000 m³ for Russian gas in January 2023. “It is noteworthy that all the amounts of gas received from Russia (3.5m cubic meters a day) are directed to Transnistria for obtaining cheaper electrical energy (73 MWh), generating this way new debts in the Transnistrian region (which now exceed US$7bn),” stated Dionis Cenușă.
In December, the price per 1,000 m³ of natural gas was US$785.
