Elena Pintilei, director general of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, has told IPN that the event emphasizes the library as a community institution that responds to the needs of society and brings changes to communities, especially nowadays.

Elena Pintilei noted that the event promotes the personalities and institutions that in 2022 supported the National Library and the national libraries. In 2023, the National Library has a very ambitious agenda.

This year we also intend to become involved in the drafting of the National Calendar that places emphasis on famous persons and personalities of the nation, to carry out the planned sociocultural activities that promote the books and reading, to take famous writers and personalities to the diaspora through our online communication platforms and through other methods, to develop the digital library module on which the National Digital Library will be based and to launch a project to restore the Central Block of the National Library,ˮ stated the library’s director.

Andrei Chistol, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, said that it is important to discuss the role of libraries and what should be done for the libraries in Moldova to keep that breath of culture, to become involved in community development and in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova. “We have a series of challenges related to the work of libraries.
