People in the autonomous unit of Gagauzia in southern Moldova are expected tomorrow at polling stations to vote in the second round of the elections for the autonomy’s legislative assembly. Runoff elections will be held in 17 constituency areas which haven’t produced a winning candidate in the first round on March 16, Info-Prim Neo reports. The race for the Gagauz People’s Assembly is continued by 22 independent candidates, 8 Communists, two backed by the Social-Political Movement “Ravnopravie” (“Equity”), one proposed by the Agrarian Democratic Party, and one by the Socialist Party. Of the 18 candidates elected from round one, three are Communists, two are Democrats and one represents Ravnopravie. The remaining 12 are unaffiliated. According to Chisinau analysts, future negotiations on the formation of a coalition in the People’s Assembly are expected to be intense. The average turnout in round one exceeded 60 percent. The most active voters were from rural areas, with the turnout rate exceeding 80 percent in some villages.
