The Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia at the start of this year kicked off two new social programs. One of them envisions the provision of childbirth allowances, while the second applies to local police veterans. Contacted by IPN, Andrei Vedutenco, press secretary of the Bashkan of Gagauzia, said both of the programs are financed with money from the local budget and cover only the inhabitants of the region.

Starting with January 1, childbirth allowances of 400 lei are provided from the budget of Gagauzia at the birth of the first child and of 600 lei at the birth of each next child. “These families also receive the payments to which they are entitled from the national budget. If the family has more than three children, an individual decision is adopted and a more consistent benefit is paid,” stated Andrei Vedutenco.

The second program is intended for police veterans. Under this, lump-sums of 1,500 lei will be provided to these. “About 250 applications have been submitted overall. At least 150 of these were already approved. The others are in the process of examination,” said Andrei Vedutenco.

A program launched last year will be continued in 2017. This provides for the allocation of 500 lei to socially deprived families in winter for paying for public utilities.
