Gagauzia Governor urges civil servants to cut free rides

Civil servants in Gagauzia will ride in taxpayer-financed cars less, using them only for professional duties. Even for these purposes, the dignitaries in the region will have to renounce using them once in a while in order to stick to the budget limits. An indication in this respect was given by Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal, at Tuesday’s sitting of the Autonomy’s Executive Committee, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the governor, the funds expended by civil servants for using governmental cars are much too high for the autonomy’s modest budget. Mihail Formuzal requested the civil servants to restrict drastically the use of taxpayer-funded transport, insisting to keep the budget for the car fleet maintenance at the level of last year, even though the fuel price went up 12%. Mihail Formuzal argued that by reducing costs for free rides it will be possible to implement new informational technologies in the Executive Committee, which will provide the opportunity to hold meetings and solve problems directly from the office. Formuzal also requested to create a commission that would shed light on cases of misapplication of a large amount of fuel offered by Turkey as humanitarian aid, of closing “Oguz Bank”, which was detrimental to the population, and misuse of USD 20 mln from the loan granted in ’90 by Turkey to the autonomy’s executive committee in order to create the water supply system. The results of the investigations and the name of the guilty persons are to be published in the regional press. In 2006, the expenses for governmental cars increased by 25% and totalled MDL 3 mln.
