At a recent meeting with Speaker Marian Lupu, the Students’ League of the Gagauz autonomy has expressed much interest in learning the official language of Moldova by means of programs specially designed for the ethnic minorities living in the country, Info-Prim Neo reports, citing the Parliament’s press service.
The Speaker stated that the issue of teaching Moldova’s ethnic minorities to speak the official language would be examined by a special parliamentary commission during the Parliament’s current session. According to Lupu, the task of the respective commission would be to supervise the elaboration of a new methodology of teaching the official language and to monitor the implementation of the new program.
Among the issues addressed at the meeting by the students from Comrat was the Bologna Process, the participation of young persons in public affairs, as well as their views and expectations for the future. In this regard, they expressed their willingness to organize for the first time a summer school which would bring together the student community and public officials for an informal dialogue on the current problems of the youth and solutions to them.
The Speaker encouraged the Gagauz youth to participate in the “The Youth Parliament” Project, recently launched by the central legislative body, which is open to all the young people in the country. In Lupu’s opinion, the project will provide the youth with a public platform to make their voices and views heard.
