Businessman Gabriel Stati continues to wait for a court sentence in remand center 13 from Chisinau, after he was suspected of organizing mass disorders. Stati is held with other three people, also businessmen, and has not been subjected to any abuse, the Penitentiary Institutions Department (PID) is quoted by Info-Prim Neo as announcing. According to the PID, Stati was medically examined, according to the law and he was given bed linen. The PID dismisses the statements of Gabriel Stati's lawyer, Vitalie Nagacevschi, that Stati would be kept in a cold cell and specifies that Stati is in a cell on the second story of the remand center where the temperature is 18-19ºC. The PID says Stati has been subjected to no humiliating treatment or abuse by the guards, being offered the possibility to meet his counselor in the conditions provided under law. Up to now, Stati has not complained about anything to the jail administration or the PID. Gabriel Stati and Aurel Marinescu were held up on April 8 on Odesa's airport and later extradited by the Ukrainian authorities. They are accused of usurping state power and of organizing the mass disorders and may be jailed from 12 to 20 years. Stati's and Marinescu's lawyers lodged a complaint against Moldova with the European Court fo Human Rights asking to state the illegal arrest. According to the lawyers, penally punishing those two is due to President Voronin's hostility toward the Stati family.
