The future President of Moldova must be competent, patriotic and honest. Such qualities were enumerated by most of the respondents of the poll “Moldova’s President in the people’s view: sociological approach” that was carried out and presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, IPN reports.

Asked what problems they are concerned about the most now, most of those polled named the price rises, corruption and poverty. The direct election of the President preoccupies fewer respondents. 40% of those questioned consider the election of the President by direct vote will not contribute to solving the country’s problems.

About 70% of the respondents know that the presidential elections will take place on October 30. Approximately 30% said they don’t know about this event and when it will be held.

Asked what historical figure they would choose as Head of State, the largest part of the respondents mentioned the rulers Stephan the Great, Vlad Tepes and Alexandru Lapusneanu and also the Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible.

The Association of Sociologists and Demographers’ head Victor Mocanu said the respondents want a President with an iron hand, who would deal with the problems experienced in the country.

Asked what parties they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, over 25% of the decided voters said they would support the Party of Socialists, about 13% the Party “Action and Solidarity”, approximately 11% the Democratic Party, 10% the Political Party “Our Party”, 9% the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, while 8% the Party of Communists. The other parties would not pass the election threshold.

As to the external course, both the number of those who would vote for entry into the European Union and of those who would vote for entry into the Eurasian Economic Union in a referendum decreased. Thus, the number of the undecided ones increased.

The poll was conducted between September 1 and 10 and covered a sample of 1,179 persons from 77 communities. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
