Twelve children from socially deprived families aged younger than three will be able to benefit from the services of a social crèche in Balti town. For the purpose, CCF Moldova – Child, Community, Family has launched a fundraising campaign through an online platform called Purpose of Lent, IPN reports.

The platform represents a virtual restaurant where the people are encouraged to choose the favored types of foods and give up eating these for a day or more so as to donate their equivalent value for creating the social crèche. All those who want can do this on www.rostulpostului.md until April 16.

CCF Moldova - Child, Community, Family head Liliana Rotaru said the given service enables mothers who are in difficult situations, who raise children alone, who didn’t do work legally and raise children only on state benefit to find a job.

“An assessment is carried out and only the social cases benefit from these services. These include the mothers who do not have another solution, who do not have a family – a mother, a husband or a partner who would look after the child. A crèche has the capacity of 10-12 places and up to 20 children can go through this a year,” stated Liliana Rotaru.

She also said that for a single parent to benefit from the social crèche service, this should interact with the tutelage authorities, which can offer the possibility of taking the child to a crèche for six months so that the parent could work.

EBRD programs coordinator Veronica Arpintin said the EBRD will support this project and will double the raised funds. “These children are the youngest, the most helpless and, regrettably, the most unprotected by our state,” she noted.

The crèche maintenance costs will be covered by the state. At least €10,000-12,000 is needed for equipment, rehabilitation and renovation.

There are seven social crèches in Moldova, five of which were created with the support of CCF Moldova.
