Functionary at Balti penitentiary charged with bribery

The logistics officer at the Penitentiary No.11 in Balti is suspected of misusing his authority and was arrested by the northern division of the Anticorruption Center (CCCEC) on bribery charges, Info-Prim Neo reports. The functionary was arrested after he allegedly promised a man to arrange a favorable transfer and an early release for an inmate, in exchange for €4,000, CCCEC said in a release. The press unit of the Department for Penitentiary Institutions confirmed the arrest and said the functionary was suspended from work. If found guilty, the man may face a fine of up to 60,000 lei or an imprisonment term of up to 7 years.
