Frozen branch pipes provoke leakages

The branch pipes that freeze up in January-February cause a large number of water leakages in Chisinau. According to SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC), the number of leakages last week rose to 50, Info-Prim Neo reports. ACC director Constantin Becciev Monday said that the company’s intervention teams last Saturday and Sunday had to deal with a high number of leakages following the melting of the iced water in pipes. This week, the works to remove the leakages will go on. The water supplier will carry out inspections at the consumers whose branch pipes got frozen. “A part of the works to repair the water pipes will be covered by the company, but we will also ask for funds from the reserve fund of Chisinau municipality,” said Constantin Becciev, adding most of the accidents happen because the pipes are old and financial recourses should be identified to replace them. According to “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, more than 2,000 branch pipes have frozen up in the municipality of Chisinau this winter.
