The folk songs were the focus in the radio performance “Friends of Music” staged in the big studio of the Radio House on July 8. It was broadcast live by Radio Moldova, IPN reports.
“Friends of Music” is a bimonthly program that includes live performances by soloists of artistic ensembles of “Teleradio-Moldova” Company, access to which is free.
Journalist Victor Stahi, who moderates the concert and program “Friends of Music”, said the project was launched 10 years ago, at the suggestion of Master Gheorghe Mustea and Radio Moldova director Alexandru Dorogan.
“The intention was to bring the public closer to the artist. The program promotes valuable music and represents a launch pad for beginning artists. The people come regularly to see the performances, even of academic music that is less accessible to the general public,” stated the journalist.
In the July 8 concert, singer Vasile Mereuta promoted the first songs of his album that is to be launched soon. “We promote what we inherited from our parents. In my case, my father and mother sang well. As music is in our genes, we listen to folk songs with pleasure in my family,” said the singer.
Vasile Mereuta has told IPN that he accepts to perform at charity concerts and offers his assistance to those in need. “I wish those who listen to our music to value folk music and to promote folklore as, if we have folklore, we have authentic culture,” he stated.
Mihai Grosu, soloist of “Mugurel” Orchestra, was invited to sing solo for the first time. He said that folklore changes as the people do. “The audience seldom asks us to sing ballads and doinas. The authentic folk song is for a special public that can appreciate it,” he said.
The concert at the Radio House also involved artists Nicolae Palit, Maria Sarabas, and Silvia Goncear.
