The freight carriers of Moldova waste money on fuel and tires for trucks when bypassing the Transnistrian segment. Deputy head of the Carriers Union of Moldova Oleg Lipskii has told IPN that when covering additionally a distance of 400 km, the carriers lose one day of the term set for delivering the goods.
Oleg Lipskii said the Transnistrian segment started to be avoided at the end of the 1990s. It was estimated that in the period the Moldovan carriers spend on the additionally consumed diesel fuel the same amount of money as for the purchase of 60 new trucks, while on new tires, the same amount as for another 15 trucks. The opening of a route through Palanca would enable to reduce costs.
Recently, when presenting a study made in the transport sector, the head of the Carriers Union of Moldova Eugen Datsko stated the Transnistrian carriers lost the market from the right bank of the Nistru. The study authors said this sector has been excessively politicized by Chisinau and Tiraspol.
