Free studies in U.S. for Moldovan students

The Moldovan students who want to spend one academic year in the United States studying in an American high school and living with an American host family can apply to the 2012-13 FLEX Program for high school students that is sponsored by the U.S. Government, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the American Councils for International Education. Only students of the 9th, 10th and 11th grades of the 2011-12 academic year, born after January 1, 1995 and before July 15, 1997, are eligible for FLEX. They must be citizens of Moldova studying English. The Ministry of Education of Moldova requires that FLEX finalists returning from the program year in the U.S. complete the 12th grade in Moldova. To participate in the competition, eligible candidates must register online on the website of the American Councils for International Education by September 14. They must present themselves at one of the test centers with the following items: original birth certificate, original identity card or foreign passport, and one document-type photo. Testing will take place in the following towns:  Ungheni, September 6, 10.00, “V. Alecsandri” High School,  Chisinau, September 7, 15.00, “Spiru Haret” High School,  Orhei, September 8, 10.00, “A. Russo” High School,  Causeni, September 9, 10.00, “A. Mateevici” High School,  Telenesti, September 12, 10.00, “L. Blaga” High School,  Soroca, September 13, 10.00, “C. Stere” High School,  Edinet, September 14, 10.00, “D. Cantemir” High School,  Balti, September 15, 10.00, “M. Eminescu” High School,  Cahul, September 19, 10.00, “D. Cantemir” High School,  Comrat, September 20, 10.00, “G. Gaidarji” High School. According to program coordinator Ala Marciuc, FLEX has been implemented in Moldova the 15th year. The selection procedure lasts for about eight months. The candidates are examined thoroughly. The U.S. families are chosen by a number of organizations and they should have an impeccable behavior. Thirty-four Moldovan students were selected for the 2011-2012 year of study. Twenty-seven of them are in the U.S. Being minors, the students are accompanied by a representative from Washington from the Chisinau airport up to the U.S. capital.
