The Government decided to exempt the persons who want to change the Soviet-type passports for identity cards from paying taxes on civil status services until September 1, IPN reports.

The pensioners, residents of Transnistria and persons who refused to be allotted a state identification number will be unable to obtain the necessary documents gratis, but they will be able to ask providing particular civil status services as an urgency without paying the relevant tax, said Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim.

Among the mandatory civil status documents required when applying for an identity card are the birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate and change of name certificate.

Last week, Parliament adopted a bill providing that the holders of Soviet-type passports will be able to change them for identity cards without paying the mandatory state tax by September 1.
