Young people from four settlements of the country responded to the call made by the Center for Continuous Electoral Training and danced in front of the mayor’s offices of Chisinau, Nisporeni, Hancesti and Vulcanesti in the evening of June 5. The Center’s head Natalia Iuras said the goal of the event was to transmit the message that the local public administration is not representative without partners of different genres, ethnic groups and religions, IPN reports.

“By this event, the young volunteers call on all the people, regardless of ethnicity or genre, to go to the polls on June 14. By this dance, we wanted to draw attention to the fact that without partners it is not possible to do something. We created teams of people of different ages and want to show that dance units, as the elections do,” stated Natalia Iuras.

The young people danced to the rhythm of three types of music, showing the passersby that together they can create a dance in harmony. The Center’s head said that in the local general elections it is important to choose competent and responsible people. “Religion, sex and ethnicity in the local administration count the least. The only criterion we urge the people to take into consideration is competence,” she stated.

Natalia Iuras noted that the Center for Continuous Electoral Training is now staging different activities to promote free and transparent elections. In this connection, two mobile teams consisting of volunteers of the Center travel to the northern and southern Moldova where they inform the people about the local elections, including about who will be elected and what powers the Central Election Commission has.

She added that the informing of people about the electoral process is very important given the adoption of new legal provisions that the voters must know so as to correctly exercise their electoral rights.
