Free access to exhibitions and performances at Chisinau Water Tower on Museum Day

“Museums for education and research” is this year’s theme of activities dedicated to the International Museum Day that is marked on May 18. The Museum of the City of Chisinau, the Water Tower, will open its doors to the general public at 12 noon with a program of exhibitions and artistic events, IPN reports.

The museum’s director Valeria Suruceanu said that a series of activities focusing on artistic education, cultural dialogue, research of Chisinau through art will be staged this year. The museum will promote the activity of art schools managed by the General Division for Culture and Cultural Heritage of Chisinau, the creative potential of young people from Chisinau and the Transnistrian region. Ukrainian refugee children will also be involved in the activities.

The events will start at 12 noon with the awarding of prizes and the launch of the exhibition within the fifth edition of the contest “Art and Mythopoetics of the City. The competition involved young people up to 25 years old who expressed their feelings about their hometowns through visual works, films, paintings.

A “Musical Dialogue at Height” will follow and will feature singers Tatiana Beșliu, Eugenia Arseni, sisters Pelin, Mariana Muleavina and Veronica Grozova, who will sing songs in French, Romanian and Ukrainian.

The square of the Water Tower will host an eco fair with the participation of young creators, at which clay and silk works will be presented. The event will involve a team from the Transnistrian region. “Thanks to their involvement in the events taking place in Chisinau, we establish a dialogue, we remember that we have a common future, a friendly, democratic space. The message of the museum is that through culture and research we discover true European values,” said the museum’s director.

Students of the music schools “Eugen Doga”, “Maria Bieșu” and :Valeriu Polyakov” will hold a recital starting at 1:00 p.m. Ukrainian refugee children will participate in a masterclass, starting at 2.00 p.m., under the guidance of plastic artist Veaceslav Ignatenco. At a creative workshop entitled “Pinocchio”, students of “Dante Alighieri” Theoretical High School will model plasticine under the coordination of sculptor Adrian Grama.

The evening will culminate with a concert by the “Black Orchestra” Accordion Ensemble, Jazz Ambassadors Project and Geta Burlacu within the UNPREDICTABLE project.

On the museum’s building, there will be projected the video “Water Tower – Time Travel”. The digital projection was made by Mari Iurskaya with the support of USAID Moldova, the Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau and the UK.

The museum will be open until 10:00 p.m.
